What the name means
Norske Spill is Norwegian for "Norwegian games". Norske means Norwegian and spill means game, or games, since the word stays the same in the plural. We liked how short and straightforward it sounds, which is roughly what we were aiming for with the games too.
Why winter in Norway?
Long Nordic winters have always been a time for indoor pastimes: cards by the stove, stories about trolls under bridges, carving and painting. Rosemaling, the flowing flower painting you'll see in the little ornaments around the site, decorated the walls, chests and bowls of farmhouses in the Norwegian valleys for generations. We borrowed that cosy feeling and built five games around it, set out along a trail so you can wander from one to the next.
What you will and won't find here
- Five games played with virtual coins that exist only in your browser.
- Every payout and every chance written out on the game's own page, with nothing tucked away.
- No shop. You can't buy coins, and you can't turn them into money, vouchers, goods or anything else.
- No prizes of any kind, no leaderboards with rewards, no sign-up beyond a nickname.
- No adverts, no tracking and no cookies.
How the games are drawn
Each round is decided in your own browser using its built-in cryptographic random number generator, the same kind of source used for security keys. Nothing is weighted against you based on your balance, how long you've played, or anything else about you. The odds you read on the page are the odds the game uses.
Four of the five games are set up so that, over many rounds, they hand back a little less than they take. That's deliberate: it mirrors how games of chance behave in general, and we would rather show that honestly than pretend luck runs in anyone's favour. Ski Jump is the odd one out, a pure timing test where your reflexes decide the outcome.
Who we are not
We have no connection to any gambling company or bookmaker, and we are not part of, or endorsed by, Norsk Tipping, the Norwegian state's own games company. We don't send players anywhere to gamble for money, and we never will.
Who it's for
Norske Spill is written for adults in the United Kingdom and is open to anyone aged 18 or over. Doing well here doesn't mean you would do well with real money, because real gambling isn't built to be generous. If you are worried about your own betting, please have a look at our play-safely page.
